Rental terms

These terms govern vehicle rentals provided by Lirida Car Rentals (“the lessor”) to the customer (“the renter”). They supplement — and do not replace — the specific terms set out in the rental contract signed when the vehicle is collected.

1. Driver age and licence

• Minimum driver age: 23 years.
• Valid Category B driving licence held for at least one (1) year.
• Non-EU licences require an International Driving Permit.
• Any additional driver must be declared and approved in writing before pickup.

2. Documents and identification

At pickup the renter must present a passport or national ID together with a valid driving licence. Copies of these documents are kept for as long as required by Greek tax and insurance law.

3. Deposit and payment

Rental is paid on pickup. No advance payment is taken through the website. A pre-authorisation may be placed on the renter's credit card to cover the insurance excess; it is released on return of the vehicle without damage.

4. Fuel

Same-to-same policy. The vehicle is delivered at a recorded fuel level and must be returned at the same level. Returning the car with less fuel will be charged at the difference plus a refuelling fee stated in the rental contract.

5. Mileage

Unlimited mileage within Crete. Leaving the island is permitted only with prior written approval.

6. Insurance and excess

• All vehicles carry compulsory third-party liability insurance under Greek law.
• Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) with an excess is included. The excess amount is stated in the rental contract.
• Zero-excess cover is available for an additional daily fee.
• Not covered: damage to the underside, tyres, windows and interior; damage from off-road or unpaved-road driving; damage caused under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

7. Accident or theft

In the event of any accident, breakdown or theft, the renter must:

• Notify Lirida immediately on +30 698 604 3882.
• Call the Police and obtain a copy of the report.
• Complete the European Accident Statement form.
• Not admit liability without the lessor's written agreement.

8. Late return

A grace period of one (1) hour is allowed. Beyond that, an additional day will be charged. Return to a location different from the agreed drop-off is only possible with prior approval and may carry an additional fee.

9. Fines and administrative charges

All traffic fines, tolls and parking charges incurred during the rental are the responsibility of the renter. Where the authority contacts us later, an administrative handling fee — stated in the rental contract — may be charged.

10. Prohibited uses

• Taking the vehicle out of Crete without written approval.
• Sub-letting or use by an undeclared driver.
• Carrying goods for resale, or animals, without prior agreement.
• Driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances.
• Driving outside the approved road network.

11. Cancellation and changes

Free cancellation up to 48 hours before pickup. Later cancellations are charged the equivalent of one day's rental. No charge is taken through the website before confirmation.

12. Child seats and extras

Child seats, snow chains and other optional extras are provided on request, subject to availability.

13. Personal data

The renter's personal data is processed in line with the General Data Protection Regulation (EU 2016/679) and applicable Greek law. See the full Privacy notice.

14. Dispute resolution

Greek law applies. The courts of Heraklion, Crete have jurisdiction. Consumers may also use the EU Online Dispute Resolution platform (ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr) and the Hellenic Consumer Authority.
